Blog posting activity

In my media studies class we were assigned a more project like quiz to display our understanding of use and meaning behind the different shots we learned during these past few classes. The rubric given was to use 2 inanimate objects as well as optionally using a human character. We had 10 mandatory given shots and angles we had to use and were able to use our creativity for another 5 shots of our story. My partner and I chose a pink stapler that we named Casandra. As well as a blue sharpie we named mark, and a pink sharpie we named Jessica.

Casandra is Marks girlfriend, she is secretly lesbian and hasn’t told mark yet. Mark id Casandra’s boyfriend, he became very rich and took Casandra on a trip around the world. My partner and i used paper to fold a paper airplane and draw windows to act as a plane prop. We also used the globe in my teachers classroom to represent them traveling, and my teachers plant to act as a jungle. Jessica is the other woman that met up with Casandra during her and Marks trip and they fell in love. Jessica knew Casandra had a boyfriend but she didn’t care because she’s evil.

I believe my partner and i could’ve done better with our extreme close up on Mark crying. We maybe should have found a spot with better lighting or somewhere outside (if we had the time) to be able to have the camera really focus on the water and have the shot come out more detailed. I also believe my partner and I executed the over the shoulder shot very well, blurring out mark but still having him in the frame looking over to see his girlfriend with another girl. It was a very hard moment for him. My partner and I portrayed Marks emotions well (even without facial expression) using water as tears and angles to show how he feels more powerful with his money in the beginning and his pain when we had an extreme close up on his tears. We portrayed Jessica’s cunning personality by drawing an evil smirking face on a piece of paper and attaching it to the pink sharpie.
