Media theory (8)

Now that I have met with a group, gotten some feedback and pointers- I can now think about the plot and what I want to incorporate in it. Our film is going to be a thriller, character vs character. We know we want to film on the beach and do a "prank gone wrong" situation. This will include an antagonist that ends up possibly "taking" the main character as he is the last person she sees before going missing.

I was previously fascinated with the coming of age theme and was hoping to incorporate some of those elements through the teenage main characters. Given our strong thriller theme, I don't think it is possible to classify our film under coming of age but the opening scene will start off as a nostalgic teenage sequence of shots, so this will allow me to use my love for coming of age films and research, on this opening scene. I will research some nostalgic teen music ideas for the beginning of the opening scene.

I would like to incorporate Todorov's Narrative Theory of Equilibrium into my opening scene. This media theory consists of mainly three parts.  These three parts are equilibrium, disequilibrium, and new equilibrium. Our equilibrium, when the audience is introduced to the characters and beginning of the story through the shots of the main character and her friends partying. The disequilibrium, or initial disruption, will be when the main character goes missing. Once the friends realize this, they will go looking for her, put up flyers, call the cops. This is our new equilibrium. Since we are only filming the opening scene, we will only be able to get as far as suggesting the disequilibrium and hinting at how they may possibly start the new equilibrium theory process.
