Sound project reflection

I learned about foley artists and how they use creativity to create the full sound for films. I learned about how much trial-and-error foley sounds take and how much of an open mind you must have to create them. I learned how to put sounds together and layer them to make them sound as realistic as possible as well as defining each sound to create a story with just sound alone.

For my project, we were required to make a 1-2-minute-long film using just sound. We were only allowed a black screen or one still image. Only 7 words are allowed to be used in the film so any music must be wordless. We had to create a chronological film with a storyline start to finish within the time span given, using sounds alone. We were required to make 4 of the sounds ourselves as foley sounds. We had to make a list of scenes and what sounds we would use for those scenes on a piece of paper to get started.

I approached this project by first making my list of scenes and sounds. I'm thinking to make sure I could accurately create my story. I then thought out which 4 sounds i could make foley sounds out of. Once I had my layout, I got to film the 4 foley sounds with my partner. Then, I went on an editing app as we were allowed to use any of our choice and used sites my teacher provided to gather the sounds i needed. I Did overlap, volume adjusting, and cutting to make sure everything lined up and you could hear the sounds you needed to, and background sounds were quieter than the main ones.

I believe I layered sounds very well to create a realistic environment. I also faded out the sounds I used for outside when my main subject opened a door to go inside, you could hear as she steps inside the restaurant the sounds of mind and rain fade away and the sounds of people talking and eating fade in. I think I could have improved my foley sounds. I struggled with being creative with the foley sounds. I could have been more creative if I had watched more video examples.
